I generally find that the rediff reviews match with mine and also mostly they are out a few hours after mine....this one (link above) was out before I went to see the movie and the 4.5 stars out 5 meant expectations were heightened.....
I am back from the film.....so do the reviews match? Not this time, i am afraid......the plots is a tad complex...even if violence admittedly is Vishal Bharadwaj's lief motif , this film is gruesome, dark, morbid....the main characters never appear to settle down in their roles.....the music is pedestrian too ( Omkara had a great score)...... Vishal has tried to make it topical by roping in the plot a North Indian disliked in Mumbai by the hard-core Marathi politicians/crooks...Shahid , in the double role, looks tentative and off -colour and poor Priyanka, neither gets to show glamour nor any great acting !
The movie will struggle to impress and/or make money and now to add to its problems, it has to face delayed release in Mumbai and other main cities, thanks to the swine flu.....
Over the years, I have seen most talented film makers lose their creativity either briefly or over prolonged period, a bit like the cricketers losing their form......well, VB lost his form in this one! I do concede that form is temporary and class is permanent.....lets see what he comes out with in 2012 ! Tough luck this time, Mr Vishal Bharadwaj.......
