...and not a word on it by anyone

One lakh people die every year in road accidents: Home secretary

stressing on the need for government and private sector to come together for effective traffic management. Pillai said many people
don't know that the country loses more than 100,000 people every
year in accidents.

Apart from the human loss, the country also loses about Rs 10,000
crore in terms of compensation, insurance claim and related needs
which otherwise could have been used for other purposes.

"It (casualties) is 20 times more than what we lose in terror attacks,
Left wing extremism and all insurgencies put together where we do
not lose even 5,000 people," Pillai said at a seminar organised by
the Indian Chamber of Commerce here.

Expressing serious concern over the death of such a large number
of people in road accidents, the home secretary said both the government and the private sector must work together to innovate effective traffic management schemes to be implemented across the country.
